Abstract
Courcelle-Seneuil's Free Banking (1867) argues that the best monetary system is one in which banks operate without government-granted monopolies or special privileges. Drawing on the experience of free banking in Scotland and the United States, he demonstrates that competition among issuers produces more stable and trustworthy currencies.
