Combining the power of Lightning Network with a smooth user experience to accept Bitcoin in your business: that's the mission Wallet of Satoshi has set itself by implementing a point-of-sale in its wallet. In this tutorial, we'll find out how you can set up a point-of-sale accepting Bitcoin in your business.

The wallet

Within the Bitcoin ecosystem, Wallet of Satoshi is a recommended wallet for getting started with Lightning payments. Despite the fact that you're not in full possession of your bitcoins (self-custodial), Wallet of Satoshi offers a smooth experience for getting started with Bitcoin with small amounts using the Lightning Network layer. If this is your first experience with this wallet, we recommend our Getting Started tutorial.
To facilitate the adoption of Bitcoin in communities around the globe, Wallet of Satoshi has also set up a Point of Sale to encourage users to find a proven use in their community: buying and selling goods and services with Bitcoin.

Point of Sale

The Point-of-Sale experience offered by Wallet of Satoshi stands out from other options primarily for its simplicity and fluidity. In addition to requiring nothing more than the mobile app available on Google Play Store and iOS, you can use the wallet to:
  • Make personal transactions.
  • Manage your inventory.
  • Invoice your customers.
  • Keep separate records of your assets and payments from your business.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: It is essential to download the application on an official platform or directly via the official website to guarantee the integrity of your data and the security of your funds.
In the application, access the menu, then click on the Point de Vente button to access the point of sale.
❗Access to the point of sale requires you to be logged in with your email.
Under the Keyboard section, you can directly invoice purchases by inserting the product amount and adding a note for better traceability.
To better structure your point of sale, you can configure the products you have in your store by giving the name and prices at which you sell them.
You can select multiple items to generate a Lightning invoice for your customer to pay. By combining the Keyboard and Item options, you can create a seamless invoice for products both in and out of your inventory.
Click on the Charge button to generate a Lightning invoice associated with your customer's purchase. Your customer will be able to pay his bill instantly from his Lightning wallet or with his Bolt card via NFC.
In the History menu, you'll find a list of payments for each invoice you've generated in your point of sale. This history is distinct from the default history of your Wallet of Satoshi account, which lists all payments you have made and received outside the point of sale.

Improving point-of-sale configuration

Having a seamless experience with the point of sale also means finding the configuration that's right for your environment.
In the Wallet of Satoshi wallet menu, select your local currency from the list of supported currencies, to configure your products in currency units you are familiar with.
To keep better track of your payments, in the Wallet of Satoshi settings, you can download your history into a CSV file and perform any analysis you wish on the basis of this data.
An e-mail will be sent to your account e-mail address with a temporary link from which you can download the CSV file.

Further with Point of Sale

Wallet of Satoshi doesn't just provide bitcoin solutions for small businesses. From the Wallet of Satoshi POS application, you can enable your staff to cash Bitcoin payments at your various points of sale.
Download the app, available on iOS and Google Play Store, to your various terminals or to your employees' devices.
Connect your Lightning address to your Wallet of Satoshi wallet and set the currency unit for the point-of-sale region.
Your staff are then eligible to receive bitcoin payments in your shop. The standard Wallet of Satoshi wallet remains the one from which you can spend bitcoins and reconfigure your store's inventory.
Each user of the Wallet of Satoshi POS application has a personalized payment history of the Lightning invoices they have generated in the application.
