The exclusion of a large part of the population from access to financial services, particularly in Africa, is an open secret.
Faced with this situation, numerous initiatives are emerging on the continent to redress the balance and promote financial inclusion for very low-income populations.
This is the case of Ejara, a Cameroonian company whose aim is to democratize access to savings and investment starting at 1,000 CFA francs.
Designed specifically for French-speaking Africa and its diaspora, Ejara allows investors to invest in government bonds and crypto-currencies through its Ejara Crypto mobile application.

Getting started with Ejara Crypto

Go to your application store and download Ejara Crypto :
Note: As previously mentioned, Ejara Crypto is a mobile app that is more or less specific to investing in Bitcoin. It's entirely possible to stumble across the "Ejara" app in your app store.
Indeed, the latter is also a mobile application belonging to the same company. However, it is dedicated solely to savings.
This application will be of no use to you if you plan to invest in the Bitcoin.

Create an account

Once installation is complete, open the application. Press the Create an account button.
On the new interface that appears, choose your country code by setting its flag (1), enter your phone number (2) and set a strong password (3). Then click on the Create account button.
At this point, you'll need to follow a few steps to configure a few preliminary settings in order to create your Ejara Crypto account. Otherwise, you won't be able to access the application's main interface.
1 - Define your username and add an e-mail address.
2 - Enter your personal data (surname, first name, country of birth...)
3 - Secure your account by creating a PIN code.
Congratulations! Your account has just been created.
Once on the application interface, press the Invest button.
You'll be redirected to the tab of the application you'll use to invest in bitcoins, and more specifically to the Wallet interface.

Interface overview

In addition to this interface, :
Activity: interface dedicated to displaying the balance of the wallet in general, its sub-funds (investment, savings, stablecoins) and the history of all transactions carried out.
Xpress: here you have an overview of your referral earnings, which you can withdraw by clicking on the Remove button in this interface.
Account: gives you access to your profile and application settings.
Hub: space reserved for choosing your payment options, backing up your keys, connecting an external wallet to buy NFTs, etc

Account configuration

First of all, it's important to carry out a few configurations in order to access the application's various functions. These configurations will take place on two levels.
Level 1
Click on the Account interface button, then on Profile. In this menu, you can change the language of your application, change your password and activate two-factor authentication (which we strongly suggest, as it's an extra layer of security).
We also suggest that you activate the Require PIN, Require application to be opened and Request removal buttons in the PIN Settings to further strengthen the security of your application.
In fact, thanks to these activations, your PIN code will be required for any attempt to open your application and for any request to withdraw digital assets or money. This automatically prevents any third party from using your application without your knowledge.
Level 2
This configuration level is very important.
First, backup your keys. In our tutorial, we'll make a manual backup. It's very important to back them up carefully and store them in a safe place.
Next, do the KYC. Note that there are four levels of KYC on Ejara Crypto. The more levels you complete, the more likely you are to make high-dollar transactions.
Since you performed the preliminary configuration when you created your account, the first level has already been reached and is therefore checked in green. ✔️
Finally, choose your payment method. Don't worry if this button doesn't work. You have the option of configuring your payment methods in another way. We'll cover this a little later in the Buying bitcoins on Ejara Crypto section of our tutorial.

Receiving and sending on-chain bitcoins

1 - To receive bitcoin on Ejara Crypto, access the Wallet interface and press the Receive button.
Click on Bitcoin.
Share your QR code or address with your sender and receive your bitcoins.
2 - To send bitcoins from your application, go to the Wallet interface and tap on the Send button.
Select asset Bitcoin.
Next, define whether you want to send bitcoins to an Ejara user, or to an external user by clicking on the appropriate button.
When the recipient is an Ejara user, the next step is to enter the transaction amount, the recipient's username, and then the transaction speed, adjusting for network charges.
Whereas when sending bitcoins to an external user, you need to define the amount to be sent, the receiver's address and then the transaction speed, adjusting for network charges.
In both cases, you can also scan your recipient's QR code directly from your application.
Then check the transaction details and enter your PIN to validate the shipment.

LN reception and dispatch

Ejara Crypto also offers options for receiving and sending bitcoins via Lightning Network.
To receive via LN on Ejara Crypto, return to the Wallet interface and press the Receive button. Press the Lightning Network asset category (1) and select the Lightning Network asset (2).
Define an amount, add a description (label) and click on Generate invoice.
Have your invoice scanned or share your invoice with your sender to receive your satoshis.
To send satoshis from the application, click on Send from the Wallet interface, and choose the Lightning Network asset.
You'll be redirected to an interface where you can paste or scan an invoice. Then press the Continue button.
Press Confirm payment to confirm shipment.

Buying bitcoins

In addition to receiving and sending bitcoins on Ejara Crypto, you can also buy and sell on-chain bitcoins and satoshis.
Whether you're buying on-chain bitcoins or satoshis, the purchasing process remains the same.
From the Portfolio interface, click on the Buy button.
Then choose :
  • gW-13 asset if you wish to acquire on-chain bitcoins;
  • and Lightning Network assets to acquire satoshis.
At this point, you'll receive a message asking you to configure your payment settings, as this is your first purchase attempt.
If you remember, I told you about another option for configuring your payment method. Press Continue to proceed with this configuration.
Press Change to define the wallet from which your bitcoins will be sold.
Click on Add a method to select your payment method. In our case, we'll choose mobile payment. Please note that the service charge for this option may be up to 2% of the purchase amount.
Moreover, this choice requires us to add a cell phone operator..
Tap on Change to change your fiat currency.
Bingo! You've just successfully configured your payment options.
You will then be redirected to this interface to continue the purchase process. Here you define the purchase amount. The minimum purchase amount is 5,000 CFA francs for a purchase of satoshis, and 100,000 CFA francs for a purchase of on-chain bitcoins. Then click on the Continue button.
Check the transaction details and click on the Confirm purchase button.
You will be asked for a second confirmation. This time, enter the PIN code of your Ejara Crypto application.
The last step is to enter your mobile money account password to be debited with the purchase amount and the application service fee.
In fact, these service charges are made up of fees from third-party providers, notably cell phone operators, network (blockchain) charges and fees levied by Ejara itself to keep the platform available.
Once you've purchased your first on-chain bitcoins or a substantial amount of satoshis, you can of course leave them in the application's built-in wallet. However, I strongly recommend that you transfer them to your own self-custody wallet.
If you don't yet know how to use a Bitcoin wallet, I invite you to explore the "Wallet" section on Plan ₿ Academy.

Selling bitcoins

Video version of sales process
To sell bitcoins with the Ejara Crypto application, go to the Wallet interface, click on the Sell button.
Choose the asset (bitcoin on-chain or satoshi) to sell.
Enter the amount of bitcoins you wish to sell and press Continue. As you can see, the minimum selling price is 1,000 CFA francs for a sale of satoshis, and 50,000 CFA francs for a sale of on-chain bitcoins.
Check the details of the sale and click on Validate.
You will receive a notification that your order is in progress. You will also receive an e-mail with the details of your sales transaction.
You can check the progress of your transaction on the Activity interface.
A few hours later, you're informed again by the application and by e-mail that the sale amount has been credited to your mobile money account.
Your mobile operator will also notify you when this amount has been deposited into your account.
Note: Currently, on Ejara Crypto, buying and selling operations take between 1 and 4 hours.
As mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial, Ejara Crypto offers a variety of products. Their main product, the ability to save via the mobile app, is based on a savings system specific to African populations: the tontine.
Given that the aim is to digitalize savings and make it easier to invest in digital assets, the Ejara Crypto team is available to provide advice and assistance with any difficulties you may encounter.
You can send a query directly in the app or contact their very diligent customer support via Telegram.
You can now use the Ejara Crypto application to receive, send, buy or sell bitcoins from as little as 1,000 FCFA.
