How to Create a Bitcoin Community

Organize themed meet-ups, with an annual progression

Once you've built up a core group of around ten people, you can start adding presentations to each event. These can follow a theme announced in advance or be completely independent from one another.
When planning presentations or workshops, it helps to create a clear, well-structured progression. The aim is to cover Bitcoin's core concepts step by step, giving attendees a complete view of the topic from multiple angles.
In France, during the summer of 2023, meet-up organizers worked on an annual progression. Beyond its strong educational value, this approach makes it possible to share open-source documents and slide decks between groups, gradually building a shared library of resources. The initiative has been well received and is set to grow in the coming years.
Below is the 2023-2024 French meetup progression. For each theme, an open-source presentation and a video are available, which may give you ideas for topics you could cover for your own events.
Other resources are also available in the "Educator Content" section of Plan ₿ Academy, a collaborative space where Bitcoin educators from around the world share and make available their educational materials (presentations, flyers, guides, posters...) in ready-to-use or editable formats. The goal: pool efforts to avoid starting from scratch each time!

Chapters 2 and 7 can be split into two shorter presentations to avoid overwhelming participants. Running them in one session, however, frees up space in the calendar for special activities, such as joint meetups with neighboring groups, quizzes, or workshops.
You're free to use, adapt, and share these resources, just be sure to credit the original authors if you reuse their work.
Since not everyone will attend every meetup, it's a good idea to record presentations and upload them to a streaming platform or your website. This allows absentees to catch up and participants to revisit the material later.
In parallel, you can run other themed meetups, such as:
  • A Bitcoin knowledge quiz (with a hardware wallet as a prize)
  • An onboarding challenge where you send free satoshis to no-coiners on the street
  • Inviting an expert speaker or a company to present a Bitcoin-related product
  • A night tour of bars and shops that accept Bitcoin
And much more, your imagination is the only limit!
