Designing and writing flyers takes time, but it's worth it, they give you a tangible resource to hand out when talking about Bitcoin, which is always appreciated.
These flyers can be targeted toward:
- Merchants, if you want to introduce Bitcoin as a payment method;
- Event attendees, with a flyer explaining how to use and pay with Bitcoin/Lightning;
- Beginners, whether met on the street, at work, or during a family gathering, with a flyer highlighting Bitcoin's main benefits.
You could also design a flyer specific to your community or meet-up, presenting your activities, goals, social media links, communication channels, and upcoming events.
Several flyers are already available as open-source in the Bitcoin Teaching Toolbox on planB.network and more will be added over time.
One example is a complete sourced flyer with 21 reasons to use Bitcoin. Its design is also available in open-source for you to modify and adapt and share. Just remember to credit your sources.
As mentioned earlier, you can leave these flyers almost anywhere: on a shared desk at work, at a family dinner table, in a public library, etc.
In France and a few other countries, there are also "book boxes", small wooden boxes where people can freely donate or borrow books. You could leave a flyer there, or even better, a book.
In 2023, the "Bitcoin White Paper in France's Book Boxes" initiative was launched.
To carry out this project, participants first had to collect the geolocation of all book boxes in the country. Several databases exist for this purpose:
- boite.a.livres.zonelivre.fr;
- boites-a-livres.fr;
- delivrez.fr;
- plus local press articles
While leaving the Bitcoin white paper is symbolic, it's often too complex for newcomers to understand. Instead, the idea was to create a small booklet containing:
- an accessible, well-sourced introduction to Bitcoin, its uses, and the problems it solves;
- the Bitcoin white paper, translated into French.
Here's the booklet shared among French bitcoiners which has been placed in dozens of bookboxes around the country. Its design is also available as open-source.
