Welcome to BTC 304!
Since 2009, Bitcoin has grown relentlessly. This growth has taken shape through new Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIP), the creation of additional layers to make the network scalable (Lightning Network among others), and the development of multiple companies and start-ups.
Its development is also evident in On-Chain, with the number of transactions steadily increasing.
For example, between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2024, the number of transactions on Bitcoin's main layer is estimated to have increased by 66.2%. Meanwhile, between August 2021 and August 2023, the number of public transactions on Lightning Network rose by 1,212%.
This significant growth is, of course, closely linked to:
  • the growing interest of people around the world in using Bitcoin, to free themselves from the banking system and/or use a less volatile or less devalued currency, as is the case for populations in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Argentina, and others;
  • its price appreciation over time, establishing it as a store of value and a long-term investment, driven by its fixed monetary policy;
  • the successive growth of the speculative cryptocurrency market, particularly during 2017-2018 and 2020-2021;
  • Bitcoin's growing presence in mainstream media.
Although Bitcoin is still in its early stages, this reality, which you're likely already aware of, prompts us to consider two key questions:
How can we encourage Bitcoiners to go further in their learning and projects to fully harness Bitcoin's potential?
How can we help newcomers, often drawn to short-term speculation, avoid losing money on the latest memecoin craze and instead focus on learning Bitcoin's fundamentals?
The best solution to both challenges is simple: be present in the real world and educate.
The aim of this course is to provide you with everything you need to create and effectively organize a Bitcoin community or meet-up.
